The Grüne Karte (Green Card) is an international motor insurance card: paper proof, recognised outside the EU, that your car has Kfz-Haftpflicht (motor third-party liability insurance). It used to be printed on green paper and sent by post, but nowadays it is a printout on a white sheet.
