Who is eligible for insurance?

Health insurance for foreign nationals (visitor insurance) under the Care Economy tariff is designed to meet the needs of foreign guests and visitors to the European Union (EU) and Schengen Area countries. A visitor insurance policy for foreign nationals may be taken out by individuals aged 75 or under for a maximum period of up to two years.

What cover does the insurance provide?

The scope of cover includes outpatient, inpatient and dental treatment provided by all approved doctors at the standard local rates. Health insurance for foreign guests and visitors to the country meets all the requirements for a Schengen visa as set out in Directive (EC) No 810/2009, which was adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on 13 July 2009.

Visitor insurance under the tariff Care Economy It also provides insurance cover for the host party against most of the financial risks associated with the declaration of commitment. Thanks to the combination of accident insurance and liability insurance under the Care Protector tariff, the residual risk arising from the undertaking is significantly reduced.

Why is insurance necessary for a foreign visitor?

Many foreign nationals staying temporarily in Germany, the European Union, Switzerland or Liechtenstein, often have no insurance cover at all, or only insufficient cover. Illness or accidents, unfortunately, cannot be ruled out and may result in significant financial losses.

What services are included in this tariff?

Under your medical insurance policy, we will reimburse you for expenses incurred as a result of illness or an accident in Germany, Austria and all EU countries, as well as in Switzerland, Liechtenstein and the Schengen Area. Among other things, the following are covered:

  • Outpatient treatment with doctors
  • Inpatient treatment in hospital — general ward (with no choice of services) — including subsequent rehabilitation
  • medical transport to a nearby hospital and back;
  • Dental treatment with pain relief, including both simple fillings and repairs to existing dentures and crowns 100 %, up to a maximum of €300,– for stays of up to 180 days. For insurance cover exceeding 180 days, the maximum is 600.00 EUR
  • additional costs for the repatriation of a patient to their home country on medical grounds and as prescribed by a doctor, up to 10,000.00 EUR
  • the cost of transporting the insured person’s body following their death or funeral expenses — up to 25,000.00 EUR

Less a EUR 25.00 excess per claim.

What is not insured?

The insurance company does not pay for:

  • Diseases and medical conditions that were known at the start of insurance
  • The consequences of illnesses and accidents that occurred within 6 months prior to the start of insurance

The maximum validity period of the insurance policy, including all types of contract renewals, is 2 years.

When renewing the agreement, the difference between the initial validity period of the agreement and the newly established one must be paid. If there was the option to make monthly insurance contributions during the month, this will also be retained for the validity period of the renewed agreement.
