Concordia Zahnzusatzversicherung — supplementary dental insurance from Concordia Krankenversicherungs-AG (Hanover). The flagship tariff in the range is called ZAHN SORGLOS: it reimburses 100 % of the cost of dental treatment, prosthetics and orthodontics and has no Wartezeit (waiting period). Below is a breakdown of the 2026 terms: premiums by age, limits, pitfalls and who this tariff really suits.
ZAHN SORGLOS at a glance
- 100 % for dental treatment, prosthetics, splints and orthodontics — up to the maximum factor of 3,5 under the GOZ (German dental fee scale)
- Dental insurance with no waiting period — the insurer pays bills from day one
- In the first three years a limit applies (Zahnstaffel, a staggered payout cap): 1 500 → 3 000 → 4 500 €, from the fourth year there is no limit
- Premiums from 17,98 € a month for children and 32,67 € for ages 30–39
- You can insure up to 4 missing teeth for a surcharge from 9 € per tooth

How much does Concordia ZAHN SORGLOS cost?
The premium depends on your current age: it rises when you move into the next age group, and the tariff builds no Alterungsrückstellungen (ageing provisions). Apart from the surcharge for missing teeth (see below), there are no other medical surcharges — you are either accepted or declined.
| Age at contract start | Monthly premium | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| 0–19 years | 17,98 € | 215,76 € |
| 20–29 years | 23,26 € | 279,12 € |
| 30–39 years | 32,67 € | 392,04 € |
| 40–49 years | 35,75 € | 429,00 € |
| 50–59 years | 46,97 € | 563,64 € |
| 60–69 years | 53,52 € | 642,24 € |
| 70–79 years | 63,60 € | 763,20 € |
| 80–89 years | 50,24 € | 602,88 € |
| 90–99 years | 24,71 € | 296,52 € |
Figures from the Concordia 2026 tariff sheet and the official tariff page. The premium is based on your current age: when you move into the next age group, it changes according to the table.
What this means in money terms. One implant with a crown costs around 2 900 € in Germany, and the statutory health insurance reimburses about 784 €. That leaves more than 2 000 € to pay out of your own pocket. The annual premium at age 30 is 392 €. So the policy pays for itself with the very first implant.
What the Concordia dental policy covers
| Service | Reimbursement |
|---|---|
| Dental treatment fillings, root canal treatment, periodontal treatment | 100 %, no upper limit |
| Prosthetics implants, crowns, bridges, veneers | 100 %, within the Zahnstaffel for the first 3 years |
| Splints for bruxism, DROS splints | 100 %, no upper limit |
| Professional tooth cleaning fissure sealing, polishing, fluoridation | 100 %, up to 550 € per two policy years |
| Orthodontics for children, KIG 1–2 (statutory severity grades) mild malocclusions, the Krankenkasse (statutory health insurer) pays nothing at all | 100 %, up to 8 000 € per case, within the Zahnstaffel for the first 3 years |
| Orthodontics for children, KIG 3–5 moderate and severe misalignments, the Krankenkasse contributes | 100 %, no cap per case, within the Zahnstaffel for the first 3 years The family’s statutory share of 10–20 % (§ 29 SGB V) is not covered by the plan: the Krankenkasse refunds it once the treatment has been completed successfully, and if the treatment is stopped, nobody refunds it. |
| Orthodontics for adults Invisalign, retainers, ceramic braces | 100 %, up to 8 000 € per case, within the Zahnstaffel for the first 3 years |
| Pain control and sedation acupuncture, hypnosis, general anaesthesia, nitrous oxide | 100 %, no upper limit |
| Teeth whitening | 100 %, up to 500 € every four years |
All amounts are reimbursed up to the GOZ maximum factor of 3,5 — the upper limit of the German dental fee scale. Tariffs that stop at the 2,3 factor leave the difference to you; ZAHN SORGLOS does not create this problem.
Zahnstaffel: reimbursement limits of the first three years
This is the main thing to understand before signing. In the first few years, the insurer limits the payout — otherwise, people would take out policies a week before getting implants.
| Policy year | Maximum reimbursement |
|---|---|
| 1st | 1 500 € |
| 2nd | 3 000 € |
| 3rd | 4 500 € |
| from the 4th | no limit |
In the first year the cap is pro rata to the number of insured months: at Concordia the policy year is the calendar year.
Two important exceptions.
- The limit applies only to prosthetics and orthodontics. Dental treatment, splints, cleaning and pain control are reimbursed in full from the very start.
- When an accident occurs, the limit does not apply at all — a knocked-out tooth is restored regardless of the contract year.
Wechselbonus (switching bonus) if you move from another insurer
If you were already insured, Concordia shortens the limit period by one year: full reimbursement starts in the third year, not the fourth. The conditions are strict, so check all four:
- the switch is direct, with no gap between the policies
- the previous policy ran for at least 12 months
- it reimbursed private bills for prosthetics — a “Krankenkasse only” option does not count
- you need a copy of the policy and the cancellation confirmation
Dental insurance with no waiting period
By law, an insurer may set a waiting period of up to three months, and up to eight months for dental treatment, prosthetics and orthodontics (§ 197 VVG, the German Insurance Contract Act). As with most of the tariffs we review on this site, with ZAHN SORGLOS there is no Wartezeit (waiting period): dental bills are reimbursed as soon as the policy starts.
There are no exceptions on timing: treatment, prosthetics, splints, orthodontics and professional cleaning are all reimbursed from the first day of cover.
No waiting period does not mean, however, that you can take out cover for treatment that has already been recommended. The insurer distinguishes between a “waiting period” and “treatment already begun”: costs for anything recommended or started before you signed the contract are never reimbursed.
Insuring missing teeth
Concordia accepts up to four missing teeth — for a surcharge on the monthly premium.
| Missing teeth | Monthly surcharge |
|---|---|
| 1 | 9 € |
| 2 | 18 € |
| 3 | 36 € |
| 4 | 54 € |
The scale: the first and second missing tooth cost 9 € each, the third and fourth 18 €. The surcharge is paid monthly together with the premium.
- wisdom teeth do not count
- gaps already closed with a bridge or implant do not count as missing teeth
If more than four teeth are missing, you need tariffs that do not ask about missing teeth — we will tell you which ones are available now.
Sorglos-Garantie and modern methods
The tariff includes a guarantee: new treatments that become available later are automatically included in the cover, without changing the policy. The tariff already includes things many insurers regard as “not medically necessary”:
- dental laser
- CEREC — a crown in a single visit
- digital volume tomography (DVT, cone beam CT)
- Invisalign and DROS splints
- surgical microscope
- PACT photodynamic therapy and Vector technology for periodontitis
How much does the tariff actually save?
Calculation based on the Concordia tariff sheet — a set of typical cases in one year:
| Case | Bill | Krankenkasse pays | ZAHN SORGLOS pays |
|---|---|---|---|
| Implant with a crown | 2 900 € | 784 € | 2 116 € |
| Root canal treatment | 1 000 € | 0 € | 1 000 € |
| Occlusal splint for bruxism | 750 € | 0 € | 750 € |
| Orthodontics | 4 500 € | 0 € | 4 500 € |
| Professional tooth cleaning | 100 € | 0 € | 100 € |
| Anaesthesia and sedation | 350 € | 0 € | 350 € |
| Teeth whitening | 400 € | 0 € | 400 € |
| Total saving | 9 216 € |
The example shows the most the tariff can pay and ignores the limit of the first years: in the first year, reimbursement for prosthetics and orthodontics is capped at 1 500 €.
Minus 30 % if the Krankenkasse does not pay its share
Concordia calculates its reimbursement from the invoice after the Krankenkasse has paid its share. If the Kasse is not involved in the invoice, the insurer cuts the payout by 30 %.
Two situations where this applies:
- Treatment abroad. If you go to Turkey or Ukraine for implants, the German Krankenkasse pays nothing towards them, and Concordia deducts 30 %. In EU countries such as Poland, the Kasse reimburses its share under § 13 Abs. 4 SGB V (German Social Code, Book V) if the treatment plan has been agreed with it in advance. The ZAHN PLUS terms, § 2.3, say verbatim: “Falls Sie zustehende Leistungen der GKV … nicht in Anspruch nehmen, weil Sie sich z. B. für eine Behandlung im Ausland entscheiden, kürzen wir den Erstattungsbetrag um 30 %” (if you do not claim statutory benefits you are entitled to, for example because you choose treatment abroad, the reimbursement is cut by 30 %).
- Dentist without Kassenzulassung (accreditation with the statutory scheme). A dentist who does not work with the Krankenkassen triggers the same penalty. The ZT and ZB terms, § 3: “Bei Zahnärzten ohne Kassenzulassung wird der Erstattungsbetrag pauschal um 30 % gekürzt” (for dentists without Kassenzulassung the reimbursement is cut by a flat 30 %). For orthodontics, the same rule is in ZAHN PLUS, § 2.4.
The logic is simple: the insurer assumes the Krankenkasse covers part of the invoice. If you give up that share of your own accord, Concordia takes the view that you have raised its costs yourself — and offsets this with thirty per cent.
Practical conclusion: it pays to be treated in Germany and by a dentist with Kassenzulassung. If you are planning treatment abroad, tell us before you sign — there are tariffs on the market where this clause is milder or missing altogether, and we will find one for you.
What you should know before signing
- Minimum contract term: one year. After the first year the policy can be cancelled monthly, with the usual notice.
- Residence in Germany. To take out the policy, you need a permanent address in Germany and at least three years of residence in the country.
- A child cannot be insured on their own. An adult family member — a parent, grandmother or grandfather — must be insured with Concordia. Only then is a policy issued for the child.
Health questions: Concordia checks your dental status
When you apply, Concordia carries out a Gesundheitsprüfung (health assessment) — a questionnaire on the condition of your teeth. The insurer is entitled to verify your answers with your dentist.
Be honest. A hidden crown or diagnosed periodontitis will come to light with the very first bill, and the insurer will then refuse to pay and terminate the policy for breach of the duty of disclosure (§ 19 VVG). If treatment has already been recommended, the order is different: first find a tariff that accepts you in your current condition, and only then see the dentist.
Concordia is not the only option
We have a separate comparison site gut-zahn.de: 39 tariffs from 15 insurers. The tool asks a few questions — age, missing teeth, whether orthodontics is needed — and shows which tariffs are open to you at all and how they differ.

Who it’s suitable for, and who it isn’t
Suitable for:
- people whose teeth are generally fine and who have no treatment recommended — the tariff gives maximum value for the money
- parents of schoolchildren: the Krankenkasse does not pay for KIG 1–2 orthodontics at all, and braces cost 4 000–6 000 €
- people who are afraid of the dentist: anaesthesia and sedation are covered, with no limit
- people switching from another insurer — the Wechselbonus removes one year of the limit period
Not suitable:
- if treatment has already been recommended — Concordia will not pay for it
- if more than four teeth are missing
- if you only need professional cleaning: paying 32 € a month for 275 € a year makes no sense, a narrower tariff is cheaper
How to take out the policy
The calculation takes a couple of minutes: all you need is your date of birth and the desired start date. The calculator below is the insurer’s own, with our broker number, so we see your application and follow it through until the policy is issued.
If you are torn between tariffs or your dental situation is complicated, start with the comparison on gut-zahn.de or write to us before you sign up. We work as an insurance broker and compare offers across the whole market rather than selling a single product.

Frequently asked questions
What does ZAHN SORGLOS pay for a child’s braces at KIG 1–2 and at KIG 3–5?
At KIG 1–2 (statutory orthodontic indication groups) the Krankenkasse (statutory health insurer) pays nothing, and ZAHN SORGLOS reimburses 100%, up to €8,000 for the whole treatment. At KIG 3–5 the Kasse covers standard treatment started before the child’s 18th birthday, and the plan pays 100% of the private bill on top, with no euro cap. It does not cover the family’s 10–20% share. In both cases the joint Zahnstaffel (cap on payouts in the first years) for orthodontics and prosthetics applies for three policy years.
Does ZAHN SORGLOS have a waiting period?
No. ZAHN SORGLOS has no Wartezeit (waiting period): treatment, prosthetics and orthodontics are reimbursed from the start of the policy, so you can see the dentist or orthodontist straight away. The Zahnstaffel (cap on payouts in the first years) still applies from day one, and treatment recommended before you signed is not covered at all.
What limits apply to ZAHN SORGLOS in the first years?
The Zahnstaffel (cap on payouts in the first years) covers only prosthetics and orthodontics: up to €1,500 in the first year, up to €3,000 over the first two years and up to €4,500 over the first three, with no limit from the fourth year. At Concordia the policy year is the calendar year, so the first-year cap is pro rata: it falls by one twelfth for each month before cover starts. I would not wait for January: cover from 1 November gives only €250 in year one, but full payouts begin a year earlier. Accidents are not capped.
Does ZAHN SORGLOS reimburse the family’s 10–20% share at KIG 3–5?
No. At KIG 3–5 (statutory orthodontic indication groups) the Krankenkasse (statutory health insurer) pays 80% and the family 20%, or 10% for a second child from the same household, under 18 and treated at the same time. The Kasse refunds it when treatment ends as planned. Concordia treats it as the Kasse’s payment and never reimburses it, even when treatment is stopped and the money is lost. ZAHN SORGLOS pays the private bill on top: 100% up to the maximum GOZ (German dental fee scale) rate, within the first-years cap.
Will ZAHN SORGLOS pay for braces the orthodontist has already recommended?
No. Concordia does not cover treatment that is already known, recommended by a dentist or under way when you apply. The application form asks directly whether orthodontic treatment is ongoing, took place in the last three years or has been recommended. Having no Wartezeit (waiting period) changes nothing here: these are separate rules. For braces already planned, at KIG 3–5 (statutory orthodontic indication groups) the Krankenkasse (statutory health insurer) pays most of the cost; at KIG 1–2 the family pays.
Can a child be insured?
Yes, the 0–19 tariff costs 17,98 € a month, and for children it is usually the best-value policy in the family: the Krankenkasse does not pay for orthodontics for a mild misalignment at all. But a child cannot be insured on their own — an adult must hold a Concordia policy: a parent, grandmother or grandfather.
How long does the contract run?
The minimum term is one year. After that, the contract renews automatically and can be cancelled monthly.
Is a wisdom tooth considered to be missing?
No. Extracted wisdom teeth are not counted, nor are gaps already closed by a bridge or an implant.
Can I get treatment abroad?
You can, but it does not pay off. If the Krankenkasse does not contribute to the bill — and for treatment outside Germany it usually does not — Concordia cuts its reimbursement by 30 %. The same rule applies to a dentist without Kassenzulassung.
Is Concordia a reliable company?
ZAHN SORGLOS is underwritten by Concordia Krankenversicherungs-AG, part of the Concordia insurance group, which is headquartered in Hanover. It is a traditional German insurer licensed by BaFin.
